Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Can sessions be in-person?
A. Yes! I can work in-person with clients located in the San Francisco Bay area.
Q. Is this program good for adults as well as kids?
A. Yes! Orton-Gillingham is a very flexible and easy way for an English speaker of any age to learn to read, spell and write in English. I have successfully worked with college or university students and working adults to sharpen their writing skills for academics and business.
Q. Can I work with you from anywhere?
A. Yes! I am able to delivery therapy services to international clients. The online sessions are available to anyone, anywhere in the World. All you will need is internet and a computer, tablet, or smartphone.
Q. How many sessions do we work in a week?
A. The average is three sessions a week. This is because we want to create a forward flow of progress that is not disrupted by time away. It is important to think of these sessions as therapy and to be on time and ready to work. The goal is to remediate a client to function independently as quickly as possible. The more intensely a client can work, the faster this process will be.
Q. How long does the Orton-Gillingham program take?
A. I usually work with a client for seven months. The exact length of time depends on each individual client’s needs as well as the number of sessions per week. It’s best to move a client into an above average category before discontinuing or transitioning to the Mentorship Program.
Q. Do you have a minimum number of sessions per week?
A. The minimum number of sessions for the Orton-Gillingham program is two per week. After years of experience in this practice, I have found that one day a week is not sufficient to facilitate real change. At one day a week, the program moves very slowly and we end up repeating more lessons, which will lengthen the entire process. The point of therapy is to get a client up to the reading, spelling, math or writing level that they need to be in to function independently as quickly as possible. There is no minimum for the Mentorship Program.
